Throwing like crazy

Well, this past couple weeks I’ve been throwing like crazy for my “job.” So lots of practice but very little of my own work to show for it. On the other hand, I did throw a 13 inch platter. Ok, 13 inches when its done, but right now it’s more like 15 inches. :) Its too big to fit into the small kiln.

I’ve really been getting into fossils lately. Right now I have two trilobites I’ve been using as stamps, and I like making ammonites with my clay. :) I’ve got this great jar in the works with an ammonite for a handle. I know that if they were still around trilobites would creep me out with all their little swimming legs, but since their encased in stone these days, I find them kinda’ cute. I’m also amazed at the sheer variety that there were. Spines and lumps everywhere.

Don’t get me started on the weird ass ammonites that there are out there. I mean, weird how the hell did they survive?!

Well, they didn’t in the end, I suppose, but they did survive long enough to breed and make enough that some got fossilized. Though, you ever wonder if sometimes we find a freak of nature fossil and try to build up a whole species around it?
