Pasta Jars and Mermaid purses

August 18, 2011 at 6:32 pm (Showing off results) (, , , , , , , , , )

As promised! Photos of my works in progress. 🙂

So It turnse out the mermaid purses needed to be worked on while still really wet. Or at least not as dry as the back yard made them in half an hour. -_-‘ summer drying is crazy fast. Useful in some ways, not in others.

And the pasta jars are awesome. I’m feeling pretty good about them, even if my height ceiling is around 13 inches right now. That’s still way better than before. Ah Progress.

Now, I need to go take care of my husband, who managed to break his toe while walking the dog.

Scrap Glaze of Mystery

June 29, 2011 at 11:43 pm (About my process, Showing off results) (, , , , , , , )

So I did a test tile of the scrap glaze, and it came out mottled, and looking like a gas fired cone 10 glaze. Amazing!

So I put it on a vase and fired it, looking for some more amazing lovely results. INstead I got a london-blue celedon look. Also interesting, but yet, not what I was looking for. In fact, completely different from the test. I mean really fraking different from the test. Ah, well. At least its a slop glaze. Here’s what it looks like now:
Perhaps I should call the glaze "scrapadon?"

Still, its better than what I was expecting. Almost every other scrap glaze I’ve seen comes out a dark and dirty green. Lovely picture here from Ronan Kyle Peterson that shows what I expect from scrap glazes: green mug with mushies on it.

We already have one of those, so I think I lucked out. 🙂

More drawing

June 23, 2011 at 4:44 am (Showing off results) (, , , , , , )

So I’m making some naga bowls to go with the cups. 🙂 Then its back to more cups for Cori. I have something like 200+ to throw for her.

In the meantime, here’s a close up of two of the cups from the recent firing.

… I’m not sure that’s going to work. So here’s an old school image just to be safe. cuuups!

I love the patterns on these two. I’ll be using that again. ^_^

Though, as you can see the bone is all weird and pinkish instead of the vivacious yellow I wanted. :/ But it doesn’t look bad the way it is. If its going to misfire, it should look damn good while doing it, no?

Kiln results

June 22, 2011 at 3:12 am (Showing off results) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

So in addition to the surprise from the scrap glaze, something wierd happened to the bone. Instead of turning bright yolky-yellow like it has been, it actually looks a little bone like. Its more of a pinkish white and a smooth eggshell matte. … bwa? I dunno what’s going on there but I’ll find out. Its not a bad glaze, mind you, its just not the bright yellow that I’ve grown to love and was expecting.

Anyhow, here’s a preview of my results!

a collection of happy pots from my kiln

Look at em! Ain't they purdy?

If you look at the bottle on the right and the bowl on the left you can see a clear example of the difference in bone that I’m talking about. Yes, those are the SAME GLAZE. Whodawha?

Right now the theory is water amount. I’ll let you know how the test tile turns out.

Cups and other recent pieces

June 2, 2011 at 8:03 pm (Showing off results) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

So normally when I blog, I blog on the studio’s old dinosaur which doesn’t have access to my files, and I don’t want to strain it by going to graphic heavy sights while I blog. Seriously old dino, but hell, what else would you have in an environment where there is dust and paint fumes galore? Sure, its kept from most anything, but it’d be a waste to put a good computer in there.

So today I’m writing from home and I can share photos of recent work. Yeay!

I like naga, you may have noticed, so here’s a cup that I love: Naga cup

A very large bowl: large bowl

a nice cup: cup!

and some henna inspired hand painted bowls. 🙂 bowls!

Thats all I got for today. 🙂 Enjoy!

Day one of Ceramics Showcase

April 30, 2011 at 4:55 am (Sales and events, Showing off results) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Well, starting out I had my usual show funk. It consists of worrying too much about the bottom line, and needless feelings of desperation (which just makes my ability to interact with people complete crap.) Then I figured out that writing bad poetry somehow makes me feel better. I think its because I am doing something creative and even if I’m not a good poet, it helps me vent my feelings and so I laugh better, and can be happier for everyone else.

Wierd. But hell, whatever works. And maybe someday I’ll get good at it. (Ha!)

Still, once I was able to pick up myself, I started to do better in sales. Not fantastic, but not miserable. I had a good time too, and the music at night was pretty rocking. 🙂 So very much despite myself, I had an awesome day and am feeling pretty darn good right now.

I have some lovely pictures of my booth to show with you, along with some of my new works. ^_^

As you can see, I’ve got a whole new line of work. It is, admittedly, easier to make and I’m really enjoying the drawing right now. I’m going to keep doing my sea creatures as well, but this is the sort of thing where I can do a large batch quickly and then spend more time on sculpture love. Tomorrow, I’ll post pictures of my sculpture pieces in the show. :}

Preview of art…

Hey, so here are some of the drawings in clay and my ginormous sculpture that I’ve been telling you about. This is all before they were bisqed and I’m happy to say they all made it through firing. ^_^ Also, a little bonus: a little preview of my new functional line.

lots of swirling legs. You know you want it. Oh, yeah. Oh yeah baby.

Here’s a photo of an unfired/glazed drawing that I hope to take to the Ceramics Showcase!!!

A venomous Naga doing the Cobra Pose... in a snakey way.

If a Naga does Yogo, she'd might as well go All the Way.
